Planning your bathroom renovation
How your bathroom renovation comes together.
A bathroom renovation starts with more than choosing tile. It starts with what isn’t working, what you’d like to change and how the work will fit around your household.
Here’s how to prepare for the conversation, make the important choices and understand what happens as your bathroom takes shape.
1. Tell us what you’d like to change
Perhaps the shower feels cramped, there’s too little storage or the tub rarely gets used. Tell us what bothers you—and what you’d like to keep.
Photos of your room and a few examples you like help make the conversation more useful. You don’t need every answer yet. Start with your priorities, budget expectations and any dates or household needs we should consider.
2. Work through the layout and selections
Which fixtures will stay? What will be replaced? Would a different vanity or shower solve the problem, or does the layout need another look?
Tile, fixtures, lighting and glass affect more than appearance. Their dimensions, availability and installation requirements need to fit the plan. Separate your must-haves from optional features, and clarify who will supply each item. Our completed bathroom projects can help you explain the details you like.
3. Understand the estimate before you commit
Your written estimate should connect the price to the agreed work and selections. Review what’s included, what’s excluded, the payment arrangements and any decisions still to be made. Ask how a requested change would affect the price and schedule.

4. Plan for life while the room is unavailable
Is this your only bathroom? Do you work from home? Are there children, pets or condo rules we need to consider?
Bring these up early. Discuss bathroom access, work hours, deliveries and space for materials before demolition. Don’t assume the bathroom will be usable each evening. Clear your personal belongings and discuss protection for nearby areas before the work starts.
5. Prepare the room and address what’s uncovered
Protection and removal of the existing finishes come before the new bathroom takes shape. Opening the room may reveal conditions that weren’t visible during the first assessment.
If hidden problems affect the agreed work, discuss the added scope, price and timing before extra work proceeds. Plumbing and electrical work need the appropriate qualified trades and any required approvals or inspections.
6. Build the bathroom, then finish the details
Surface preparation, waterproofing, tile and fixture installation follow the agreed scope. These stages depend on each other, so being ready for the next step matters as much as visible progress.
If you want to change something along the way, raise it before the affected work begins. Even a small change can affect materials or the order of work.

7. Walk through your finished bathroom
The final walkthrough is a chance to review the room together and ask questions before settling into your new bathroom.
- Review the fixtures, finishes and any agreed outstanding items.
- Confirm when newly installed products can be used and follow their care instructions.
- Keep your project agreement and applicable product documents.
- Make sure you know whom to contact if a concern comes up.

I had a very old 2-piece ensuite, extremely dated in terms of style as well as fixtures. There was a second closet (even though I already had a main closet? Idk, weird stuff happened in the 70s; yeah my house is older than me for sure) right beside my ensuite. I’d wanted to knock down the walls and put in a shower where the random second closet was, and I really didn’t know what to expect as this was my very first renovation as a first time home buyer. He didn’t just put in a shower. He designed and built an entirely custom shower that perfectly suits the small space that I had. His pricing was absolutely fair for the quality of work that he did. His entire team was wonderful - they were in and out with virtually no mess at all and he is definitely an expert in his craft. A specialist for every special job - so you know the work that was being done was being handled by a pro. Extremely knowledgeable. In fact, when my parents came over and saw what had been done, they asked me for his email and my dad was like we should totally get him to do ours too. Same thing with my best friend, when he showed his mom the pictures I sent, his mom demanded to know who did the work lol. So I emailed her with AnyBathroom’s contact info as well. I’m super happy with the whole experience and even though he took a bit longer than some other contractors quotes that I received, I know that quality rather than speed is important to him and it really shows. Worth every cent and every minute. Everything was done absolutely perfectly and it was an amazing first time reno experience. Could not have asked for anything better.
